New Pumpkin

About a month ago we got a Disney family magazine. David found an article on a window decoration that he was absolutely dying to try. I think it turned out great. For a little over a dollar we have a giant pumpkin in our window!!

The spots are the rain! It hasn't stopped in a month I think!

Busy Saturday

Yesterday was a busy day for us. We had a great day. We started out at the grand opening. Then we headed to the Hendersonville Farmer's Market. We got some peaches, corn on the cob, salsa, and gourds.

Last night we cooked up the corn, and also made some soup. Last nights dinner was amazing. We are going to eat the soup today. I can't wait! Enjoy all of the pictures. Janie took them.

Here is David working on the corn. He made it on the grill. This is the first time we tried this. IT WAS REALLY GOOD!!

While David was working on dinner, Janie and I were working on the O'Charley's soup. I was a little worried about it because the recipe the said use two dutch ovens. I don't have one, so I used giant pots. Here are pictures of the potatoes cooking, Janie stirring the soup part and then the final pot of soup. Today when we eat it we will top it with bacon, chives, shredded cheese and parsley.

Alex really enjoyed the corn. Here he is eating his. Janie also took a picture of their gourds, and a flower decoration we got earlier in the day at Dollar General.

Dollar General Grand Opening

Saturday was the Grand Opening of our new Dollar General. Dollar General has made a lot of changes in the last year. This new store is just down the road from our Corporate Office and is going to be our Model Store. It is Awesome. The new concept of wider aisles, better merchandise..its great.

We also have a new theme if you haven't see the video check out this link. They showed this at our Company meeting.

Anyway we were at the Grand Opening in time for the ribbon cutting. They had both the Indy Racecar and the Nascar Car onsite. Gretchen Wilson was there. They also had games, prizes, hotdogs, soda and lots of fun.

When we got in the store we got coupons, a free snuggle bear, and a free Coca-Cola tshirt. Janie had Gretchen sign her tshirt.

Alex enjoyed the outdoor activities more than then being inside. He liked the racecars and racing the pedal car. He won a few prizes too. We came home with a Dollar General grocery bag (one of the reusable "green" bags) a DG pillow, a cup, watch, and several racing pictures.

It was a great day at Dollar General!

"Mom can you please get this?"

So last night we stopped on the way home to do a little shopping. I was looking for more work clothes. We stopped at Ross which is close to our house, and a lot like TJ Maxx. Anyway, as I'm looking around Alex is going crazy. Janie and David are both looking in their sections of the store and Alex is hanging out with me. I have a couple of things in my hand when Alex runs up to me and says, "Mom, Come here" I politely tell him I'm looking at something and what does he need.

"I need you to come here!"

"What Alex?"

"I want to show you something"

"Just a minute,"

"UGH! Mom, will you please get this" He's holding up a pink lace nightie.

"huh?!"

"Please, Mom I really like it!"

"Uhm, NO!"

"Please Mom, let me ask Dad!" He runs off with the nightie in his hand to ask David!

I'm about to die of embarrassment when Alex comes back and says

"dad says its okay!"

Absolutely not! Its not my size and I'm for sure not buying something like that, that my four year old picked out. Why do boys have to start so young!!!

You Ruined Your Supper

Janie and Alex have ears like rabbits. When the ice cream truck makes the turn at the entrance of our subdivision they know it. So Sunday while we were all resting...Janie, Gary, Grandma, and I were all watching a movie. Joy, Alex and David were playing upstairs...all of the sudden I hear some crazy screaming and I'm wondering what in the world is going on with Alex. He races down the stairs screaming "ICE CREAM TRUCK!! ICE CREAM TRUCK!!"

Well it was 6:30 and supper was in the oven, so I told both kids we would go out and wait for the ice cream truck but whatever we got went into the freezer and we had to wait until after supper. They agreed. So out we went waiting for the ice cream truck, but we didn't hear him anymore. HUH?

Grandpa Gary went walking down the street to see if he could find the truck, he did and around came the ice cream truck. Gary, Joy, Grandma, Janie and Alex all got ice cream. Janie and Alex even got temporary tattoos. So as the truck drives away I remind all of the children to run inside and put their ice cream in the freezer. About the same time I hear the rip of the ice cream wrapper. Grandpa Gary was going to ruin his supper.

Well of course Alex would not let it go. Grandpa did put his ice cream in a freezer bag and into the freezer to save for after dinner. But Alex repeatedly let Grandpa know he was going to ruin his supper. After both boys finished a great dinner they got to enjoy their ice cream. Thankfully no one ruined their supper!

The Grand Ole Opry

This weekend Gary, Joy and Grandma Steffes came to visit us. We had a fabulous weekend. Saturday night we took everyone to the Grand Ole Opry. It was great.

We got to see Little Jimmie Dickens, Jack Greene, Jim Ed Brown, Ricky Skaggs, and more. It was great show. I think everyone really enjoyed it.

Dollar General Picnic

Today was the Dollar General Family Picnic. This year we went to Beech Bend Park. It's an amusement park in Bowling Green, KY. They also have an area called Splash Lagoon, but we didn't go into that area. We got to the park and road a few rides, ate lunch, and rode more rides. The kids had a blast. Alex is centimeters from the height requirement to ride all the rides. But Janie rode them all and had a blast. She got to ride the Sea Dragon which was purchased last year from Michael Jackson's Neverland Ranch. She thought that was pretty cool.

We took a break from some rides to go play bingo, which is always a hit at the picnic. Check out our loot!

We got a DG fleece blanket. A DG racing golf umbrella. A camouflage DG Racing cap. A travel coffee cup, and a DG racing helmet that is for chip and dip. And Janie got a Nike Golf Polo that is from the Dollar General 300. I say we made out pretty well.

After bingo we rode even more rides. Last but not least we went to the petting zoo, and got to feed some goats. Janie is definitely prissy. She cried so much about the goat with the horns that even the people working there were calling her by name. I'm not sure we will ever let her live it down! It was a great day. We are all worn out and ready for bed.

Can't wait till next year!

Today was my last day at Sun Tan City! Fallon, one my Tanning Consultants, brought me a nice bouquet of flowers and a card. She is such a sweet young lady. Starting Monday I will be working for Dollar General in the accounts payable department. I am very excited! Wish me luck!

School Spirit Day

Today was spirit day for Janie. Their school shirts haven't come in yet, so they got to wear their favorite jersey today. They also had Spirit Night at Baskin Robbins tonight. Since Janie doesn't really have any jerseys she wore Alex's Rams jersey. I got a little nervous when I dropped her off and saw nothing but Titan's jerseys. But she said she had a good day!

Tonight her and I went to Baskin Robbins to get ice cream. We didn't all get to go because a certain 4-year-old decided to throw fits tonight. He missed dinner all together and had to go straight to bed, and if you don't eat dinner, you don't get dessert. So maybe that certain four-year-old could use some prayers right now. I'm hoping he gets dinner tomorrow night!

Summer Vacation

So I took a break from blogging this summer. I guess that means that we were pretty busy. So let me catch you up on the happenings of the Tennessee Steffes.

Our summer started out in Ozark, MO. Adam turned 1! We had a great time that weekend. We did a little shopping, a little golfing, and just some fun playing around. Here are pictures of Adam with his cake, and the boys thinking they were kids again, playing football in Karen & Tim's backyard!

Both kids stayed in Missouri for two weeks, while David and I returned to the real world in Tennessee. The kids stayed one week with Grandma Joy and Crappaw Gary, and a second week with Grandma Jane and Grandpa Jack. They got to spend time with all of their cousins and had a great time. At the end of their two weeks, Grandma Joy and Crappaw Gary met us in Paducah. It was a great reunion.

Father's Day weekend we went back to Missouri. Unfortunately Gary and Joy were on their way to Hawaii, so we didn't get to see them for Father's Day. We did have a good time though. David, Dad, and Jude got to golf. I got Emily to fix my hair for the third time in two months. IT WAS A DISASTER! Another story though. And then David and I got to meet up with some friends at the winery for drinks. It was awesome to see everyone!

July started with lots of visitors. Grandma Joy and Crappaw Gary came for the 4th. We had an exciting 4th. On the third we had our neighbors, and David's boss over. We slowed cooked a pork tenderloin and great food and great company. On the actual 4th we went with our neighbors to Clarksville, to a friend of theirs. The kids had an awesome time, playing on a giant inflatable water slide. Then the weather turned on us! A tornado went through right where we were staying so we totally missed out on fireworks! What a bummer!

Unfortunately Crappaw had to leave on Sunday. But Grandma stayed the rest of the week, and Susan and Kelley came as well. So we got to celebrate Susan's birthday with her. We went to a Nashville Sounds ballgame. It was a lot of fun.

The next week, Jude and Emily, and their family came to visit. We had a ton of fun. We went to the zoo, Grand Ole Opry, celebrated Janie's 7th birthday and just hung out together. It was definitely a full house but lots of fun!

After Jude and Emily left we got a week to clean house. Then Traci and Cindy came with their kids. Again we had fun. They didn't stay as long, but we still got in some shopping and just catching up. It was great girl time, because David was gone for work, and the boys didn't come along.

After they left we headed back to Ozark, MO to finish out our summer where it got started. We again did a little shopping, played some golf, and got the kids pictures taken. We also went to Table Rock Lake with Karen, Tim, and Adam, and our friends Chris and Dawn. The kids had so much fun out on the lake. They went tubing for the first time. IT was a blast to see them giggling and screaming with delight. Unfortunately I left my camera at home. I have to depend on Karen and Dawn for those pictures!

On Wednesday Janie went back to school. I guess summer is officially over for us. We had a great one. And now my little girl is in Second Grade! I can't believe it! Alex is a Blue Whale. Which means this is last year at daycare before kindergarten. I can't believe how big my babies are getting!
