Bristol...One Week Later

So Jeanné told me I was responsible for posting regarding our recent trip to Bristol.  And here I am...one week later...finally getting around to doing it.

Karen, Tim, Chris, Dawn, and dad (Gary) arrived at our home at 11:15 pm that Friday.  We had began winding down and getting ready for bed when a sudden surge of testosterone engulfed the house.  We were going to Bristol RIGHT NOW!  No waiting till morning or getting beauty sleep.  Who needs sleep?  It wasn't until 40 hours of being awake I realized that I do.

So we got to Bristol sometime after 5 am eastern.  Everyone decided to get a few hours of sleep before heading to the track...that is...everyone but me.  I was feeling like a 6 year old on Christmas morning.  I was at BRISTOL and it was my first NASCAR race.

Once everyone awoke and showered, we walked to the track to get our credentials (Pit Passes, baby!!!).  Jimmy Spencer was in the trailer where we turned in our paperwork.  It was exciting to see a racing celebrity...but it was just the beginning.  Inside the pits over the next two days we were up close and personal to Jeff Gordon, Brian Vickers, Carl Edwards, Jimmy Johnson, Chad Knaus, Robby Gordon, Dale Jr., Ryan Newman, Tony Stewart, and many more.

Our seats where on turn 2.  We had a great view of the entire track.  Then the command was given, "Gentlemen, start...your...engines...!!!!"  Goosebumps covered by body as the engines started and the cars began to circle the track.  After taking in the sound of the cars for a few laps, Jeanné and I put on our headsets and began listening to the scanner and our favorite (and not so favorite) drivers.  The Dollar General car finished 15th...and my boy, Kevin Harvick, won the Nationwide race.  Unfortunately the next day, as Harvick and Vickers struggled...the evil Kyle Busch took the checkered flag.  Not even the M&M car's biggest fan (Alex...at home) was happy...he was upset because it was a Snickers car that day.

The icing on the cake was getting to meet Brian Vickers and having him autograph several items.  It was an unbelievable experience.  I cannot wait to get back to a race.

I would like to send out a HUGE thank you to Chris, Dawn, Karen, and Tim for making this an awesome weekend.  What is everybody doing in August?

Favorite Photo Friday

In honor of Ashley and Eric's anniversary this week, I chose a picture from their wedding for my favorite. I pride myself on getting "the kiss" at weddings. Well apparently this is one detail Ashley hadn't thought about and was very nervous about. I think she did a great job on her part of the kiss! Eric on the other hand cracks me up. He is holding his hands in front of him like he's never kissed Ashley before in his life! :-) Hopefully he's gotten better at the kissing in the last year!

Grandmas Come to Visit

I've been a bit of a slacker lately! I apologize! I've had plans to tell you about things but I've been lazy! Shame on me! A couple of weeks ago, Grandma Joy and Great Grandma Steffes came to visit us! It was so much fun! We hung out and played and the kids even went to the mall and played Glow in the Dark golf!

We also went out to eat Sunday after church! We went to Kabuto, a Japanese restaurant. David has eaten there before, since its close to Dollar General, but the kids and I had not! Alex was so funny, I kept asking him if he wanted chicken or steak, and he would answer I don't want chicken or steak, I want the cooker man to come cook my food! I eventually ordered him chicken and the cooker man cooked it for him. The cooker man did an excellent job entertaining Alex and the rest of us! He even made Sponge Bob out of our rice! Isn't he cute!

Later on Sunday we were sitting at home and heard some music! David immediately said its the ice cream truck. I've never lived anywhere that an ice cream truck drove through the neighborhood, but apparently we do now. You should have seen Alex, we could hear the truck but couldn't see him, he danced and danced in the driveway. And when he FINALLY pulled up to our driveway, he handed the man the money Grandma had given him without even telling him what kind of ice cream he wanted!

It was so nice to have visitors! I can't wait for more!

Favorite Photo Friday

I love this picture because it shows how serious we were when we played softball. David and I used to play slow pitch softball and had a ton of fun! As you can see from the picture. I'm being serious as I bat, David is being his dorky self!

Cinnamon Rolls

I have wanted a Kitchen Aid mixer since before we got married. I put it on our gift registry and Mom convinced me that I would never use so just take it off. I DID! Well I finally got my mixer for a graduation gift this winter from Mom and Dad. I LOVE IT! I used it for the first time to make Cinnamon Rolls..I wish you could smell my house right now. SO YUMMY! I hope they taste as good as they smell.

I apologize...

I didn't do my Favorite Photo on Friday because I again had to work at 6:30 and we left town to head to Missouri as soon as I got off work. But I will share our weekend with you.

We headed to Missouri for two reasons, one Mom's birthday..she turned 70 on the 6th. The entire family--Minus Traci :-(--got together for brunch Saturday morning at Capital Plaza, since there is over 25 of us it was tough to find a place we could all be. After brunch we took pictures...can you find me? I think my tan makes me stick out a bit! :-)

Then Saturday night we all got together--minus Jay & Traci this time-- and had a shrimp boil at Mom and Dad's..it was good but I would have much rather had fried chicken..NEXT TIME MOM!

Sunday we went to church at IC for Lily's baptism. Lily wore the gown that has been in my Mom's family for 90 years. My Mom's oldest sister wore it when she was baptized. All five of us Meldrem's and most of the grandkids have worn it as well as many others.

It was a beautiful weekend spent with family. Too bad it was only a short time!

FUN!

Lucky?

I'm getting something from Kate and you can get something from me! I'm actually hoping to get more comments than Terri and Ashley!

The first five people to respond to this post will get something made by me! My choice. For you.

This offer does have some restrictions and limitations:
1- I make no guarantees that you will like what I make!
2- What I create will be just for you.
3- It’ll be done this year.
4- You have no clue what it’s going to be. It may be a story. It may be poetry or an article on properly cleaning your face before a masque. I may draw or paint something. I may bake you something and mail it to you. Who knows? Not you, that’s for sure!
5- I reserve the right to do something extremely strange.

The catch? Oh, the catch is that you must repost this on your blog and offer the same to the first 5 people who do the same on your blog. The first 5 people to do so and leave a comment telling me they did win a FAB-U-LOUS homemade gift by me! Oh, and be sure to post a picture of what you win when you get it! If you don't have a blog.... uh, we can work something out. We can post pictures here or something. Or, you could start a blog! Blogs rule (the world!) Bloggers of the world unite!

Also, if you’re already getting something from somebody else’s blog, please give someone else a turn! Thanks!
