Apple Cake

I tried to make my first apple cake tonight. This is something I have had for years. Mom makes these all the time. David and the kids love it. But for some reason mine doesn't look like Mom's. It smells good, I haven't tried it yet. I'm thinking I didn't do something right. David's suggestion, "If at first you don't succeed, try, try again." I think he just wants more Apple Cake!

Steffes Breakfast

I've been converted. I know all of my family is going to think this is gross, but I've been converted. We had pancakes and sausage for breakfast on Sunday. David of course got out the Velveeta for his, and half way through mine I tried it. I can't believe I liked it. Here is a picture of my pancakes, sausage, velveeta and syrup. YUM!

Out of the Mouths of Babes

Janie and I are watching Oprah today. They are showing incredible dogs with crazy tricks. Anyway, during the commercials there was one for Lifestyle Lift. There was a lady on there saying that she is 63 but doesn't feel 63. So after Lifestyle Lift she looks like she feels. She looks like she did 10 years ago.

Anyway, Janie looks at me and said Grandma should be on that commercial! So of course I had to ask which Grandma, and she just laughed and said BOTH!

We Have a Contract

We have a contract on our house. WOO HOO! After inspections, appraisal, and mortgage approval of the buyers, American Escrow & Closing Company buys the house. They then give us our money, and do the closing with the buyers. The buyers want to close October 12th. So this should all move rather quickly. I can't wait!! We are pretty sure which house in Hendersonville we are looking to buy, but want to check a few more just to make sure. I'm so excited and nervous all at the same time. I cannot wait to get out of this little bitty apartment and into my home!!

My Favorite Store

David is going to love me for this one. I absolutely love Dollar General Market. I know most of you have no idea what that is, because Missouri does not have them, but its basically a Dollar General with a small grocery section. I know you are thinking, my Dollar General has some groceries, but a DG Market has fresh fruit, eggs, meats, frozen goods, etc. I think I go there once a week. Anyway, I have found that Clover Valley (a DG brand) is quite good. We have bought nothing but Clover Valley soda for the last month or so. If you like Mountain Dew definitely try the Mountain Explosion. They are very similar. And the Cola and Diet Cola are really good too. I've also discovered there version of Girl Scout Cookies. They have a version of the Caramel Delights, they look different but taste just as good. And David and the kids love the peanut butter fudge cookies. The other thing I love about Dollar General is that I got some fall decorations to make the apartment look a little more cozy. I've attached a picture of some of the stuff I got. Isn't it cute? And its makes it feel a little more like home. Anyway, I think everyone should go shop at Dollar General now.

Till Next Time,

Halloween Costumes

We got the kids' Halloween Costume's tonight. Janie is going to be a Southern Belle. I think Tennessee is getting to her. Alex is going to be a hunter. He's going to shoot deer, turkey, and bad chickens. Here's a peak at the costumes.

My New Hair

When I went home, I had Emily cut and color my hair. I really like it. It's a lot darker then it has been, but I think it is pretty close to natural. Anyway, Kristy Heckman wanted me to take a picture of it so Kim knew how to get her hair cut. So here it is.

The Chief's Game

This Sunday we went back to Missouri and David and I went to see the KC Chief's game. The kids hung out with Grandma and Grandpa Steffes. It was unusually cold for September. We had to buy sweatshirts for both of us. Although the Chiefs lost, it was a good game and we had a lot of fun.

Debutante Part 2

So I took two pictures. One this morning right after I took the curlers out. Her hair was so tightly curled, it was very cute. Then she came home from school and it was pretty much straight again. The wonders of super fine hair.

Debutante In Training

After their baths tonight, Janie (our debutante) decided she wanted to put curlers in her hair. So we got her foam curlers out and put them in. I'll take a picture in the morning so you can see how it turned out.

Dollar General Family Picnic

Saturday was Dollar General's picnic. It was held at the YMCA of Middle Tennessee in Nashville. There was horseback riding, (which we didn't get to do because David wasn't on the original emails going around work so we didn't get signed up)banana boats, bingo, pontoon rides, water slides, tons of bounce house, slides, a trackless train, a balloon artists, and caricature drawings. Plus, lunch was catered by Famous Dave's and there was cotton candy, kettle corn, and all kinds of ice cream treats. So we got there at about 11:30 had lunch. It was awesome. Then we saw the balloon man.

He convinced Janie she had to blow up one of her own balloons. Needless to say she couldn't do it. He was very funny!

So he finished her balloon for her, which was a surprise. She got a Happy face riding on her shoulders and Alex got the Black Spider Man.

Then we headed out to all the inflatables. They did the giant slide, one with basketball inside, a soccer one, a Thomas the Train one, and then back to the giant slide. This time they talked their dad into it. I don't think it was that hard. It looked like lots of fun!

Then we headed to bingo for awhile. Alex won first. He picked out a train set as his prize. Which he has already broken by the way. Then he won a second time. Which did not go over well with his sister. This time he got grape soda. Then I won and got some picture frames. Still not going over well with Janie. Finally we played blackout and it was down to two numbers that had not been called. The caller said that whatever number he called of the two was NOT the winner and the other person got the prize. Which was Dollar General Racing shirts and jackets. Well we got lucky and they didn't call Janie's number. But she sure didn't want the racing shirt and jacket that did not fit her. So she talked them into letting her pick her prize, which is a Disney Princess TV tray. Its kind of nice. She really likes having it.

We did not do any of the water activities. Maybe next year. It rained all day Friday and into Saturday morning, so it was pretty cool Saturday. The kids were a little upset because they went in their swimming suits just in case. But I think they had fun anyway. Looking forward to next year for sure.

Movie Night

Tonight we had a movie night. We popped in Scooby Doo 2 in the DVD player, popped popcorn, got some sodies, and layed all of our blankets and pillows on the living room floor. It was a fun night!

The Long Drive

The drive this weekend wasn't as bad as I though it would be, but the bridges going over the Mississippi River and Ohio River were pretty scary. I made David drive us over those both directions. It made me very nervous! Alex on the other hand was very comfortable.

Adam's Baptism

We drove to Ozark, Springfield, Nixa area this weekend for Adam's baptism. We had a great weekend. We went to Tim's brother's house Saturday and the kids got to swim in the pool. Then we went to the church where Alex fell asleep on my lap, and so Janie took pictures of the baptism for me. I think she did a fabulous job. Sunday we played golf, and went to Lambert's for supper. Monday we headed back home! It was a very good weekend.

My Lip is Numb

I had my final wisdom tooth removed today by the oral surgeon. Everything went well. I'm a little sore but more than anything I'm totally annoyed by my lip being numb. When I take a drink, I can't tell if I have it up to my mouth or not. Its horrible. Hopefully I'll feel better tomorrow.

Till Next Time,
